Coordinated by the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISMAR), the International Symposium “Transformative Ocean Science” brings together experts from science, policy, and society to discuss how ocean science can more effectively inform European decision-making.
The Symposium is conceived as a high-level international forum bringing together ocean and marine scientists, policy-makers, and key stakeholders to discuss how ocean science can more effectively support European policies and decision-making processes.
The event focuses on the EU Ocean Pact, the European Union’s new strategic vision for the ocean, and on the role of transformative approaches in strengthening the interface between science, policy, and society.
The programme includes three working days reserved for approximately one hundred invited participants, structured around a collaborative and interdisciplinary process. Among the topics covered are ocean observation, deep-sea exploration, biodiversity, ethics, transdisciplinary approaches, and innovation in public policy.
